Jude Bellingham has revealed how Trent Alexander-Arnold feels about Liverpool after he was loudly booed on his return to Anfield.

Liverpool put their wretched run of form behind them with a 1-0 win over Real Madrid in the Champions League, with Alexis Mac Allister scoring the only goal of the game in the second half.

Arne Slot's men followed up a 2-0 win over Aston Villa in the Premier League at the weekend in front of a lively atmosphere which had extra spic added to it due to the inclusion of former Liverpool star Alexander-Arnold, who was named as a substitute by Los Blancos after returning from a hamstring injury.

The right-back left his boyhood club for the 15-time European champions in the summer, moving for a fee of £8.4 million so that he could play in the Club World Cup tournament after his contract expired.

When news of his exit emerged, Alexander-Arnold was subjected to loud jeers by his own supporters when he featured for Liverpool against Arsenal back in May.

Returning as an opposition player on Tuesday night, the boos were deafening when Alexander-Arnold replaced Arda Guler and entered the fray in the 81st minute.

He had been jeered when his name was announced over the tannoy prior to the game as team line ups were read out.

But a chorus of boos arrived when he was substituted on, as well as every time he touched the ball on the pitch he used to light up.

And after the game, close friend Bellingham was asked about the reaction Alexander-Arnold received and why he believes fans were relentless with their booing.

"Yeah I heard it," the England international told Amazon Prime in a post-match interview.

"Obviously, it is one of those things in football. The fans booing isn't a reflection of how they feel about him.

"I think it is more to give their team the edge and throw him off a little bit. I am sure they're appreciative of what he has done for the club and he obviously loves the club a lot - I know that a lot from speaking to him.

"It is one of those things."

He added: "I think when they won the league last year they gave him a good send-off what I saw. It's one of those things in football and they were doing a fans' job I suppose."

Alexander-Arnold opened up on Liverpool booing pre-match

A local lad, Alexander-Arnold came through the ranks at Liverpool and went on to win make 354 appearances - playing a starring role in two Premier League wins as well as a historic Champions League triumph.

But his decision to move on and the manner in which it happened caused Liverpool supporters to change their tune on him, to the point where a mural celebrating him was vandalised going into the clash with Real.

The word "rat" was written as a dig at the 27-year-old before it was removed. Speaking ahead of the game, Alexander-Arnold stressed that his love for Liverpool will not change despite the sour split and even admitted he would not celebrate if he was to score against them.

"No matter what, my feelings won't change towards Liverpool," he said in an interview with Amazon Prime.

"I have got memories there that will last me a lifetime and no matter how I am received, that won't change.

"I will always love the club. I will always be a fan of the club. I will always be thankful for the opportunities and everything that we achieved together will live with me forever."
