Diogo Jota has sent a message to Liverpool teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold amid the defender's contract situation and revealed what he would buy him for Christmas.

Alexander-Arnold made his Liverpool debut back in 2016 under former Anfield boss Jurgen Klopp, having come through the club's academy system.

The 26-year-old has gone on to become Liverpool's first choice right-back under both Klopp and now successor Arne Slot, amassing 330 appearances for his boyhood team and scored 19 goals.

Alexander-Arnold has claimed several pieces of silverware too in the form of the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, two League Cups, the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup.

However, question marks currently stand over Alexander-Arnold's long-term future at Liverpool as his contract expires in the summer of 2025.

Should he not pen fresh terms, the defender would walk away for nothing and transfer links over a move to Real Madrid have persisted.

Alexander-Arnold is one of several key players within Slot's squad whose deals currently run out in just over six months from now.

Talisman Mohamed Salah and experienced defender Virgil van Dijk are two more whose contracts expire at the end of June 2025 and Liverpool fans will be hoping all three players agree fresh deals to remain on Merseyside for more seasons to come.

Alexander-Arnold recently gave an update of sorts on his contract situation to Sky Sports, insisting a lid will be kept on the discussions between himself and club over a new deal.

He said: "I have been at the club 20 years now, I have signed four or five contract extensions and none of those have been played out in public - and this one won't be either."

Jota has been a team-mate of Alexander-Arnold's since the attacker joined from Wolves in 2020 for a reported initial £41m transfer fee.

In that time, Jota has scored 61 goals in 157 matches across all competitions for the Anfield outfit, winning the FA Cup and two League Cups in the process.

Clearly, Alexander-Arnold's contract situation is on the minds of other members of the Liverpool squad, including Jota.

And the Portuguese has made his feelings clear on what he feels the defender should do when he was asked by Sky Sports what he would get him as a Christmas present.

He said: "What would I buy Trent? A pen so he can sign his contract."
