Four Liverpool players most at risk of being sold by Michael Edwards including world-class star

These players could leave the club.

Michael Edwards is set to return to Liverpool in a new senior role with the club's owners, Fenway Sports Group - but which players could leave the club this summer?

Edwards initially left his role as Liverpool's first-ever sporting director in May 2022, and subsequently took a sabbatical from football.

The 44-year-old rejected an offer from Chelsea as he remained out of the footballing spotlight.

But the ex-Reds transfer chief will come back to Liverpool this summer - although not in the same role that he fulfilled previously.

Instead, Edwards will become the CEO of Football for Liverpool's owners, FSG, effective from June.

It does mean, though, that will have control over the Reds' footballing operations - which will inevitably involve a large degree of involvement in transfers alongside the club's soon-to-be-appointed sporting director and manager.

Here are four players that could leave the club this summer - including a shock name.

Kostas Tsimikas

Liverpool's second-choice left-back, Kostas Tsimikas has done an admirable job deputising for Andrew Robertson after the Scot suffered a shoulder injury.

But upon returning from his own injury, both Robertson and Joe Gomez have often been preferred in the position by Jurgen Klopp.

With three years left on his contract, Edwards and Liverpool could look to cash in on the 27-year-old to fund more squad reinforcements.

Caoimhin Kelleher

Caoimhin Kelleher has been one of Liverpool's star players in recent weeks as he deputises for the injured Alisson.

Fans have long believed that the Republic of Ireland international could be a number one goalkeeper for a top Premier League side - and that is a role he is fulfilling until Alisson's anticipated return in early April.

The issue for Liverpool is that Kelleher may not settle for a bench role once the Brazilian returns. At 25 years of age, the Irishman will no doubt want to take up a starting role - whether that be at Liverpool or elsewhere.

Selling Alisson - arguably the best goalkeeper in the world in 2023 - appears unthinkable, meaning Kelleher might be the one to leave.

Rhys Williams

Rhys Williams played a vital role as cover in Liverpool's injury-hit defence in the 2020/21 season.

He was sent out on loan to Championship side Swansea the following season but failed to make an impression there, nor at Blackpool when he spent the 2022/23 campaign at Bloomfield Road.

Williams then moved to Scottish Premiership club Aberdeen at the beginning of this season, but failed to make an appearance before being recalled in January.

And after an injury issue cut short his loan spell at League One side Port Vale - again without any football - it appears likely that the 23-year-old could leave permanently in the summer.

Mohamed Salah

This is not what Liverpool fans would want to hear - but the sale of Mohamed Salah might make sense for the Reds if the Saudi Pro League increases its most recent astonishing £200 million bid for the Egyptian in the summer.

Salah, at 32 years of age, will enter the final 12 months of his contract in June, and there is no indication thus far that he will renew.

Can Liverpool turn down an amount of money that could allow them to sign one or two world-class replacements - especially if the deal is done early in the window?
