Liverpool fans create new chant for Dominik Szoboszlai to tune of Don McLean's 'American Pie'

Liverpool fans create new chant for Dominik Szoboszlai to tune of Don McLean's 'American Pie'

Dominik Szoboszlai is already becoming a fan favourite amongst Liverpool supporters.

A Liverpool fan has taken inspiration from Don McLean's hit song American Pie when creating a new chant for the in-form Dominik Szoboszlai.

It has been a summer to remember for the highly-rated Hungary international, who joined Jurgen Klopp's side from RB Leipzig in July for a reported £60 million.

The addition of Szoboszlai was a statement of intent from Liverpool following a far-from-ideal campaign – and they've certainly got their just rewards since making the swoop.

After opening his account for the Reds in a 3-0 win over Aston Villa on September 3, he doubled his tally three weeks later in a 3-1 victory against Leicester.

Szoboszlai is quickly becoming a fan favourite at Anfield. In fact, the 22-year-old has three chants to his name already, including a song to the tune of Whitney Houston's I Wanna Dance With Somebody.

Now, just a day after his heroics in the Carabao Cup, another Reds supporter has dedicated another catchy tune to the hard-working midfielder.

Twitter user @jack_gilly uploaded the song that goes, "So, my, my, Dominik Szoboszlai. He comes from Hungary and he'll make the Reds f*****g fly. Like the good old days when Bill Shankly was alive, singing he's my Dominik Szoboszlai, he's my Dominik Szoboszlai."

Check out the clip below. Brilliant.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp recently lavished praise on Szoboszlai, calling him a "top bloke" following Wednesday's screamer against Leicester.

"It's so long ago that he's here I forgot what I thought when he came in. Since the first minute of training, it was pretty impressive. He's a top bloke, really top guy," the German said in his post-game press conference.

"Easy step into the team dressing room-wise and stuff like this. A very naturally confident boy and that helps and a super-hard worker and that's what you see.

"Today he came on and had two very difficult situations; he stepped on the first ball when he defended a counter-attack and lost the ball there.

"Then the next one I think he lost as well. From that moment on, he was just in the game. That is super-important. He enjoys it a lot being here and the people obviously appreciate it as well. It's a good situation. Long may it continue."

Klopp added: "I don't have to tell him to shoot, he knows that, he knows better than I that he has a pretty good skill. The next one, which goes slightly over, is another grenade.

"You can see that in Premier League games, everyone tries to block him, that's why he didn't come through yet – but if he comes through there's a good chance the ball could be in. A super goal.

"Wataru passed the ball through and in that moment, there is no midfielder there, there is no defender who can then hold him, that's why it is so important we are winning the ball to try to play the first pass forward or at least have a forward-orientated idea. That helped there, a lot. Good."

Thoughts on the latest Szoboszlai song? Will it catch on?
