Liverpool could appoint perfect Jurgen Klopp successor as 'secret agreement' revealed

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool contract will expire in 2026

Liverpool could have the chance to appoint the perfect replacement for Jurgen Klopp due to a 'secret agreement'.

Back in April 2022, Klopp signed a new contract extension which will keep him at Anfield until the summer of 2026.

After signing his extension, Klopp said: “There are so many words I could use to describe how I am feeling about this news... delighted, humbled, blessed, privileged and excited would be a start.

“There is just so much to love about this place. I knew that before I came here, I got to know it even better after I arrived and now I know it more than ever before.”

However, Klopp’s future was questioned during the 22/23 season due to Liverpool’s torrid form.

Planning ahead for when Klopp does leave his position as manager, Liverpool could be able to appoint Xabi Alonso due to a ‘secret agreement’.

According to German news outlet Sport Bild, via Get Football News Germany, Alonso has a secret agreement with Bayer Leverkusen which allows him to leave the club when he wants.

This comes despite the fact that he extended his contract with the club only last week until 2026.

It has been reported that if a club showed interest in Alonso and Leverkusen get presented with a suitable offer, the Spaniard will be free to leave the German Bundesliga side.

Alonso was appointed as Leverkusen’s boss at the beginning of last season and has completely transformed the team from battling relegation to challenging for the European places.

After signing his contract, Alonso said: “I’m very grateful for the confidence Bayer 04 have shown in me. The fact we are convinced of the same ideas and direction on the pitch, creates close affinity and confidence between the club management and myself.

“There is also a very good and relaxed working basis day-to-day. That too makes working with my staff and all Bayer 04 employees great fun. I see last season as a positive. But I want more, exactly as the club does. We are now working on that with ambition.”

Leverkusen will begin their Bundesliga campaign on Saturday against RB Leipzig at the BayArena.
