Jurgen Klopp Personally Announces Liverpool Contract Extension With Emotional Video

Jurgen Klopp Personally Announces Liverpool Contract Extension With Emotional Video

Klopp will extend his stay at Anfield.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has signed a new two-year contract extension - which will keep him at Anfield until 2026.

The German's deal was set to expire in 2024 and had previously hinted he would depart once that expired.

But Klopp and assistant managers, Pep Ljinders and Peter Krawietz, will be sticking around for a while longer.

Klopp appeared in a video posted to the club's social channels to discuss the deal.

It begins with Klopp saying: "There's something to announce. Like last time, some will like it, some will not like it too much. If you will not like it, stop watching now.

"I stay for another two years. And not only me! No! All my coaches as well which is the most important, actually."

The 54-year-old then joked his wife, Ulla Sandrock, played a role in him deciding to stay on Merseyside.

He continued: "'Why?' is now the question. Because Ulla wants to stay! As a good husband, what are you doing when your wife wants to stay? You stay. That's not the only reason, but it's one of the reasons.

"You know I love our club, it's the best place to be. I feel really, really lucky. What is it now, six-and-a-half years ago FSG (Fenway Sports Group) thought it would be a good idea to bring a German fella in and here we are."

Since Klopp's arrival in October 2015, Liverpool have become one of the best teams in world football.

They reached the League Cup and Europa League final in his first season but fell short in both.

Back-to-back top four finishes would follow and in 2018 they'd lose the Champions League final to Real Madrid.

One year later, they were back in the final of Europe's elite competition and won it for a sixth time.

2020 would see him deliver the ultimate dream, Liverpool's first Premier League title and first league title in general in 30 years.

This season Liverpool have already won the Carabao Cup and are into the FA Cup final.

Wednesday saw the Reds defeat Villarreal 2-0 in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final, meaning a trip to Saint-Denis for a third Champions League final in five years is on the cards.

Domestically they're one point behind Manchester City in the title race.

"We'll stay for another two, makes it four from now on," Klopp added. "Wow! that's a long time in football. Hope we all will enjoy the time together. See you soon."

Liverpool return to action on Saturday afternoon against Newcastle United.
