Jurgen Klopp Drops Liverpool Return Hint as Arne Slot Suffers Another Loss

Jurgen Klopp says he has not closed the door on a future return to Liverpool in any capacity.

Klopp left Liverpool at the end of the 2023/24 season after almost nine years in charge of the club.

The German stated that he was 'running out of energy' and had no immediate plans to return to club or international management.

Klopp has stayed true to his word, taking up a post as global head of football for Red Bull rather than accepting another coaching job.

Under his replacement Arne Slot, Liverpool won the Premier League last season and reached the final of the Carabao Cup.

This season has been more of a struggle thus far, despite the Reds spending big in the summer transfer window.

Around £400 million was spent on new players, including the British club record fee paid to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle for around £125 million.

Almost half of that outlay was recouped in player sales, but the new acquisitions have so far failed to have a significant impact.

Liverpool have now lost four games in a row in all competitions, including Sunday's 2-1 defeat to fierce rivals Manchester United at Anfield.

Slot is not under any pressure at Liverpool but that could potentially change if results do not improve in the next months.

Klopp appeared on the 'Diary of a CEO' podcast with Steven Bartlett on Monday (filmed prior to the United defeat) and stated that he could 'theoretically' return to Liverpool in the future if the club ever approached him - but played down any notion that it would happen anytime soon.

"I said I will never coach a different team in England," Klopp said. "That means that if it's Liverpool, yeah. Theoretically. I don't even know exactly [what it would take it to return]. I love what I'm doing right now.

"I don't miss coaching. I don't. I do coach, but different. Not players. I don't miss standing in the rain for two-and-a-half, three hours. I don't miss going to a press conference three times a week. Having 10, 12 injuries a week. Who misses that? I don't.

"I don't miss being in the dressing room, like in the sense that I didn't have it often. I coached 1,080-something games, so I was in the dressing room very often.

"Do I have to make the decision today that I will not coach again? Thank god I don't have to do that - I can see what the future brings.

"I like doing what I'm doing right now. And in my mind, only if I'm focused 100 per cent on it, I can do it really good.

"Sometimes [I miss] people. I don't miss the dressing room as a dressing room, but sitting there in the restaurant, having a good chat with the players, that was nice. That was always nice. Standing there, hearing them laugh. I always have Virgil [van Dijk]'s laugh in my ear, for example.

"Do I miss it in general with football players? Not right now, to be honest. I'm still in the business I know most about. So the football part, I don't miss, because I have it."
