Fabrizio Romano has confirmed Liverpool have inserted an additional clause as part of the deal to sell Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen.

Leverkusen have agreed a fee of £30 million, plus £5 million in add-ons, to sign the 22-year-old centre-back.

Quansah will become Erik ten Hag's second signing as Bayer boss after he secured the signature of goalkeeper Mark Flekken from Brentford.

According to The Telegraph, Liverpool will use the funds to help them make a 'significant' offer for Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi.

As for Leverkusen, they have shelled out a club-record fee to sign Quansah, who will replace the Bayern Munich-bound Jonathan Tah in central defence.

Despite the significance of the transfer, though, the Reds have managed to negotiate an additional clause which may surprise fans.

Romano has reported that Liverpool have a buy-back clause for Quansah.

Liverpool can trigger the clause after an unidentified date, with a set fee included as part of the contract that they must pay to Leverkusen.

The 2023/24 Bundesliga champions would be obligated to accept the offer, but Quansah could choose to reject any contract offer and stay at Leverkusen, or join another club if he chooses to.

Quansah played just 13 times in the Premier League last season and was largely out of favour under Arne Slot during the first half of the campaign.

He was given several opportunities at right-back due to injuries to Trent Alexander-Arnold, Conor Bradley or Joe Gomez, but was largely restricted to starts in the cup competitions.

Quansah will now become the latest English player to ply his trade in German football, with Harry Kane, Jadon Sancho, Jude Bellingham and Eric Dier all gracing the Bundesliga in recent seasons.

It is the third piece of business completed between Liverpool and Leverkusen this summer, with Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz going the other way for a combined fee of £129.5 million.

Wirtz's move, which was completed for an initial fee of £100 million, could rise to £116 million with add-ons - which would make it the most expensive signing by an English club.
