Liverpool clinched their 20th English top-flight title on Sunday, but to the surprise of many, Jamie Carragher was nowhere to be seen.

Carragher, 47, is a Liverpool legend and is second on the club’s all-time appearance makers list, behind Ian Callaghan.

And despite winning two FA Cups, three League Cups, one UEFA Cup and a Champions League crown, the Premier League was the only trophy Carragher failed to win at club level.

The former England defender is now regularly part of Sky Sports’ Premier League coverage and CBS’ Champions League broadcasts, but on Sunday (April 27), he was not part of the celebrations at Anfield, to the surprise of fans.

Usually, the 47-year-old would make no secret of where his loyalties lie on such an occasion, but this time around, he was not part of the jubilant scenes in L4.

So, where was Carragher and why wasn’t he at Anfield on Sunday?

Well, based on his social media activity within the last day or so, it appeared that Carragher was part of the crowds at the London Marathon, which also took place on Sunday.

This was because Jamie’s wife, Nicola, was running the race, meaning she has now completed all six Abbott World Marathon Majors, having finished the London, Boston, Tokyo, Berlin, New York and Chicago races.

However, Jamie did offer his thoughts in a column for The Telegraph.

Carragher wrote: “It is an honour they must temporarily share with Manchester United, the giants of English football tied at 20-20. But there is massive symbolic importance in Slot wiping out the advantage, which owed everything to the genius of Sir Alex Ferguson.

“Slot’s instant success ends any debate about England’s most successful club. When you add Anfield’s six European Cups to the league tally, the last counter-argument they were clinging to at Old Trafford has been obliterated.”

He added: “[Arne Slot] Slot has secured his place in Anfield folklore by restoring parity with Ferguson. He will be riding the number 20 open-top bus on the parade. Once the many celebrations are over, all eyes will be on the timetable to jump on board number 21.”
