Diogo Jota has offered another controversial opinion regarding two of Liverpool’s best-ever players.

The 2024 European Championships are well underway, with most teams now having played two of their group stage matches.

Portugal are among the favourites to win the tournament, having recently claimed the trophy in 2016.

Having escaped an early scare early in the fixture, Portugal beat Czechia 2-1 in their opening game and face Turkey in their second match of the Euro 2024 campaign on Saturday.

Liverpool forward Jota thought he had scored the winning goal for his national team against Czechia shortly after being substituted on in the second half, but it was ruled out for an offside.

Ahead of the fixture, speaking with GOAL, the Portuguese forward played a game of winner stays on picking between Adidas legends.

The first pair Jota picks between is Steven Gerrard or Gabriel Jesus and, while he picks Gerrard in this matchup, he snubs the Liverpool legend in the next.

When picking between Gerrard and Mesut Ozil, Jota controversially opts for the latter after some consideration.

He then sticks with the Arsenal legend for the next four matchups against Joao Palhinha, Rui Costa, Pedri and Ilkay Gundogan but hesitates when asked to pick between him and Jota’s current teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold.

After a groan of frustration, Jota reluctantly picks Ozil and only dethrones the midfielder in the final matchup, when Jota is asked to pick between himself and the German.

Ozil made 645 appearances in his 18-year career, including 254 appearances in the Premier League with Arsenal, where he spent eight years.

He scored 114 goals in this time and assisted another 218 with most of his goals coming for the London club.

In his career, Ozil won four FA cups with Arsenal, a La Liga title with Real Madrid and the 2014 World Cup with Germany.

Steven Gerrard 749 appearances during his 18-year-career, scoring 191 goals and assisting 169.

He spent the majority of his career with Liverpool, who he made 710 appearances for, but this was not enough to convince Jota to pick him over Ozil.

Jota also snubbed his current Liverpool teammate Alexander-Arnold, who made 37 appearances for the club in the 2023/24 season.
