Diogo Jota has named his dream Liverpool signing, it's not Cristiano Ronaldo

Jota has named his dream signing.

Liverpool star Diogo Jota has named the international team-mate he would most like the Reds to sign.

Jota moved to Anfield in the summer of 2020 to provide competition for Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino in attack.

Having already gained experience in the top two divisions with Wolves, the Liverpool move was seen as the perfect platform for Jota to showcase his skills on the biggest stages.

He netted 21 goals in all competitions in the 2020/21 season as Liverpool narrowly missed out on a historic quadruple, and has worked his way into the Portugal national team setup.

As a result, Jota has played with top stars for both club and country - and chose from the latter when asked to name his dream Liverpool signing. Cristiano Ronaldo and Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes were both snubbed.

Speaking to That's Football, Jota instead named Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva as the player he would most like Liverpool to sign.

He explained: "Bernardo Silva, for me, is one of the most intelligent football players, for sure, I've known.

"The way he can hide the ball from the opponents is special. I think I'll go for him."

Bernardo has spent six years at City after arriving from Monaco in 2017, helping Pep Guardiola's side to win five Premier League titles and one Champions League crown.

The 29-year-old has made over 200 appearances in all competitions for City, and signed a new contract this summer until 2026.

Perhaps the most similar player to Bernardo in Liverpool's ranks is Thiago, who joined the Reds in the same summer as Jota.

Liverpool added four midfielders to their ranks this summer, with Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch arriving at Anfield following the high-profile departures of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson to the Saudi Pro League.
