Plenty of football fans made the same point after Liverpool fell to defeat against Crystal Palace on Sunday.

Liverpool's Premier League title bid was dealt a significant blow as they lost 1-0 to strugglers Crystal Palace at Anfield.

Early in the first half the visitors capitalised on some slack Liverpool defending, with Eberechi Eze left unmarked to slot the ball past Alisson Becker.

Liverpool spurned a host of clear chances in the second half with Darwin Nunez missing from a few yards out and Cody Gakpo putting a one-on-one opportunity wide of the target.

Palace defended resolutely and made a series of impressive blocks and saves to preserve their precious lead.

Defeat means Liverpool stay third in the Premier League table, two points behind leaders Manchester City with six games left to play.

Arsenal will go top of the table on goal difference if they beat Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon.

Following the match, fans were all saying the same thing about Liverpool's title hopes.

"Liverpool are finished," one fan said on X, while another replied: "Have to agree with you, this team looks like they are calling it a day."

A third fan tweeted: "If this match ends in defeat that’s the end of the league."

A fourth admitted, "It's been over when we were still in first. It was only a matter of time," while another said, "Liverpool is bottling the league."

The defeat was Liverpool's second at Anfield in the space of three days, after Jurgen Klopp's side suffered a shock 3-0 loss to Atalanta in the Europa League on Thursday.

The last time Liverpool lost consecutive home matches was 2017.

The Reds will look to produce a miracle in Italy on Thursday before travelling to London to face Fulham next weekend.
