Liverpool Fans Think It's Time for an Uncomfortable Chat About Player After Chelsea Loss

The player in question did not have his best evening at Stamford Bridge.

A number of Liverpool fans think it’s time to address a player’s form following his poor showing in the 2-1 defeat against Chelsea.

Liverpool started the game poorly at Stamford Bridge as they looked to halt their poor run of form, having endured back-to-back defeats against Crystal Palace and Galatasaray over the past week.

And the Reds did not appear to be at the races when Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo smashed past stand-in Liverpool goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, who was making his full Premier League debut, on 14 minutes.

However, the 2024/25 Premier League champions fought back when Alexander Isak’s deft touch set up Cody Gakpo, who finished sharply on 63 minutes.

And the game appeared to be edging towards a draw when 18-year-old Brazilian Estevao powered home Marc Cucurella's lay-off on 95 minutes to hand Chelsea a dramatic 2-1 win.

The away side’s showing was not that of a vintage Liverpool side, with several key players such as Mohamed Salah and Ibrahima Konate enduring tough evenings in west London.

Meanwhile, some fans homed in on another struggling star who has been out of sorts in recent weeks.

Alexis Mac Allister was poor at Stamford Bridge, with some fans accusing him of ‘declining’ in the early part of the 2025/26 campaign.

Goal scorer Caicedo appeared to have the Argentinian’s number throughout the match, and fans on social media did not hold back when giving their assessment of the 2022 World Cup winner’s performance.

One said: "Mac Allister, I love you, man, but we need to ship him to Atletico and get a mobile ball winner in there. He’s killing us every game."

Another added: "Mac Allister is nowhere near the levels he was at last season, it’s worrying."

A third explained: "Mac Allister ego presses aggressively, Caicedo violates him, runs into the unmarked LCM zone & smacks one in.

"Something similar happened against Newcastle last season when Bruno G violated him for that Isak thunder-strike.

"Does it even matter how much I warn you?"

While a fourth commented: "Mac Allister has killed our break so many times. He needs a prolonged rest. I love him, but he’s nowhere near the level he usually is."

As a fifth suggested: "Mac Allister's passing - and I don't just mean today - has been SO bad. Really basic passes are going horribly wrong on a regular basis this season."

Mac Allister was replaced by Wataru Endo on 87 minutes and may have been pleased to leave the field after his sub-par showing.

Liverpool will return to Premier League action against Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday October 19, following the international break.
