The Carabao Cup is set for major rule change next season which will delight Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.

The competition, known to many fans as the League Cup, has historically played two legs, one home and one away once teams reach the final four.

However, due to more intense fixture congestion in the Premier League, the second leg will be scrapped as of next season.

That's according to the Daily Mail, who claim that the the EFL have already started informing top-flight sides of the change.

The report explains that the EFL have negotiated a deal with Sky Sports, who own the rights to broadcast the two-legged, ensuring that they will not encur a financial penalty for the decision.

Klopp will undoubtedly be in full support of the idea after expressing his concerns around two-legged semi finals last year.

The Reds, who will be hoping to get past Bournemouth and progress to this season’s Carabao Cup quarter-finals on Wednesday night, last reached the semi-finals during the 2021/22 campaign, subsequently lifting the trophy.

Liverpool beat Arsenal 2-0 over the two, but Klopp voiced his complaints ahead of the contest

“Covid is around and with the amount of fixtures we have it is really tricky to fit them all in so a second semi-final is actually only good for one thing – it’s for the EFL probably from a financial point of view,” he told reporters in January 2022.

“But we should or could find a solution in the future, not for this year obviously because we didn’t ask for it, no, just in general. I think all top-class people in football, especially the coaches, agree that we have to reduce the amount of games, in the long-term definitely."

Klopp added: “But a lot of people around try to do it the other way and that will not lead in the right direction definitely. It will not be the right outcome.

“So at one point we have to talk about these things but not for this game: we have two semi-finals and we are happy and hopeful that we can play both and that’s what we want to do.”
