Liverpool have been dealt an injury blow ahead of a busy fixture calendar following their Carabao Cup win over Tottenham Hotspur.

Arne Slot continued his excellent form since taking over as Liverpool boss on Thursday night after guiding his side to a 4-0 Carabao Cup semi-final win over Tottenham at Anfield, booking his place in his first cup final at the club.

Victory in the match means that Liverpool's Premier League clash against Aston Villa has been moved from March 15 to February 19, taking the Reds fixture count for the remainder of the month to six in 17 days.

With a match every three days, Slot will need to look throughout his deep squad to manage minutes for all players, but he has confirmed he will be without one key player for the busy period.

Speaking after the Carabao Cup victory, the Dutch manager provided an important update on the fitness of his squad, but revealed that he expects to be without Tyler Morton for the foreseeable future.

"He is competing with the other midfielders. He always gives everything he has. Tyler Morton is out with an injury for a while, so that means he was maybe our sixth midfielder and James is taking that position now." Slot said.

After making two starts this season for Liverpool, the young midfielder would almost certainly have featured in Sunday's FA Cup clash with Plymouth Argyle, but he will instead face some time off of the pitch.

Slot added that he expects Morton to be sidelined for "four weeks or longer," and therefore fellow academy graduate James McConnell.

However it wasn't all bad news for Liverpool fans, as the Dutch manager confirmed that star player Trent Alexander-Arnold's rehabilitation from injury has been progressing well and, while he will be absent on Sunday, he could be back for next week's match with local rivals Everton.

“No, I don’t think so yet. That’s going to be too early for him,” Slot replied when asked if the right-back could be involved against Plymouth.

“Difficult to say [about the derby]. Like I said before, it’s not going to take months and not even weeks but that’s only three days after the Plymouth Argyle game, so let’s wait and see if he is available.

“We also have to look at the long term, of course we don’t want to take any risks with so many games afterwards coming up. But if he’s fit then of course we will use him.”
