An update on Alexander Isak's injury has been given after he was forced off during Liverpool's clash against Tottenham Hotspur.

On Saturday evening, Liverpool and Spurs met at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the Premier League.

With 33 minutes on the clock, Spurs were reduced to 10 men after Xavi Simons' horrific challenge on Virgil van Dijk.

In the second half, substitute Isak opened the scoring in the 56th minute after latching onto Florian Wirtz's well-timed pass.

However, the Swedish striker suffered a serious-looking injury after being clattered into by Micky Van de Ven.

In the 66th minute, Liverpool went 2-0 up thanks to Hugo Ekitike, who managed to outjump Cristian Romero.

Richarlison brought Spurs right back into the match with seven minutes left before Romero was sent off for a second yellow card.

In the end, Liverpool held on for three vital points despite a chaotic end.

With victory over Spurs, Liverpool moved up to fifth place in the Premier League table and are behind Chelsea on goal difference.

As the final whistle sounded, all the focus shifted to Isak's injury.

On social media, football injury expert Physio Scout wrote: "Alexander Isak had to be subbed off with a leg injury in Liverpool’s clash vs. Spurs. Off initial look, it seems to be an ACL injury (+/- meniscus). Initial contact was made with the ankle, but the knee was forced into a valgus position which brings ACL/MCL into question.

"He was able to walk off which likely rules out any lower leg fracture. Was clutching at the knee. If ACL: 9+ months."

What did Arne Slot say about Alexander Isak's injury?

Meanwhile, speaking to the media during the post-match interview, Liverpool boss Slot was asked about Isak's injury.

The Dutchman said: "If a player scores and gets injured and doesn’t come on the pitch and doesn’t try… that’s usually not a good thing.

"We'll have to wait and see. It is too short after the game to speak about it but it is never good when a player has to come off. I took Frimpong off because I did not want to be with ten men, so that injury is fine. The other two [Isak and Bradley] we'll have to wait and see. The good thing is that we have a week to go so hopefully we have enough players available to play next week again."

Looking ahead, Liverpool will return to Premier League action next weekend when they take on Wolverhampton Wanderers at Anfield on Saturday afternoon.
