Liverpool may have been give a huge boost in their pursuit of Newcastle United star Alexander Isak just days before the Premier League season begins.
With just days until the 2025/26 Premier League gets underway with an opening clash between reigning champions Liverpool and Bournemouth, there are still transfer deals being negotiated.
Undoubtedly the biggest ongoing transfer saga revolves around Newcastle striker Isak, who has been strongly linked with a move to Anfield all summer.
Despite signing Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike earlier in the window, Liverpool are believed to be eager on signing the Sweden international, who is currently on strike to try and force the move.

And now, a new report has revealed another huge development in the Isak transfer saga, and it's good news for Liverpool.

Since the start of the window, Newcastle have remained firm that, while they don't plan on selling Isak, the only way they would consider a transfer would be if they first signed a replacement.
Several forwards have been linked with the Magpies over the summer including the likes of Joao Pedro and Benjamin Sesko, but they are yet to bring in a new man up front.

But, according to a report from several Portuguese outlets this could be about to change as the Magpies prepare to up their interest in FC Porto’s Samu Aghehowa.
A recent report from O Jogo claimed that, despite their interest, Newcastle are yet to make an approach for the 21-year-old, who scored a brace in his side's league opener against Vitoria Guimaraes last weekend.
However, this does not necessarily mean the deal is off, as Jornal de Notícias claimed that the Magpies aren't willing to give up, after sending a scout to watch the match.

The report further claims that Newcastle are ready to offer around €60-65m (£51.7m-£56m)plus bonuses to Porto, but it remains to be seen if this will be enough considering the striker has a €100m (£86.2m) release clause.
However, it's not all good news as some outlets have claimed that Newcastle's concerning trend of missing out on their striker targets could be set to continue, due to Aghehowa's behaivour in the game.
Shortly after scoring his goals, Aghehowa pointed to Porto’s badge and appeared to say 'I’m staying,' potentially dealing a major blow to Newcastle and therefore to Liverpool.
