Alexander Isak faces incredibly awkward conversation with two Liverpool players if he completes club-record transfer

Things could get awkward if Alexander Isak signs for Liverpool this summer.

Alexander Isak could face an awkward conversation with two Liverpool players if he moves to Anfield this summer.

Isak continues to be linked with a stunning switch away from Newcastle United, having not returned to training ahead of the new season.

He is trying to force a transfer to Liverpool as his 'true' price tag has emerged amid a British transfer record fee.

If the Reds successfully sign Isak, then it could take their spending to around the £400 million mark - following the signings of Florian Wirtz, who cost a club-record £116 million, Hugo Ekitike, Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez, among others.

As Liverpool pursue a deal for Isak, the club have confirmed the squad numbers for the 2025/26 season.

A statement read: "The seven arrivals to the club this summer have selected their numbers, while Conor Bradley and Trey Nyoni have opted to change.

"Florian Wirtz has taken the No.7 shirt, made vacant by the departure of Luis Diaz to Bayern Munich on Wednesday.

"Milos Kerkez is the Reds' new No.6 and Jeremie Frimpong has chosen No.30, the number he had at previous club Bayer Leverkusen. Hugo Ekitike will wear the No.22 jersey.

"In the goalkeeping department, Giorgi Mamardashvili is No.25, Freddie Woodman No.28 and Armin Pecsi No.41.

"Meanwhile, Bradley has switched from No.84 to No.12 and Nyoni from No.98 to No.42."

What number could Isak take if he signs for Liverpool? Well, as it stands, no first-team numbers are available, with 1-11 all taken.

But he hasn't had a first-team squad number since his loan spell at Willem II. He wore the No.9 shirt.

The Swede joined Real Sociedad in the summer of 2019 and was handed the No.19 shirt. He inherited the No.14 shirt following his move to Newcastle - a number he seems to like given he also wore it at Borussia Dortmund.

If he wanted either number at Liverpool, then he faces an awkward conversation as they are both currently occupied.

As things stand, Federico Chiesa is Liverpool's No.14 while Harvey Elliott is in possession of the No.19 shirt.

Both Chiesa and Elliott have been linked with moves away from the club this summer.

But if they stay, then there could be a conversation to be had with Isak if he switches his Premier League allegiance this summer.
