Alexander Isak Moment From Sweden Game Leaves Fans Speechless

Alexander Isak's performance during Sweden's latest World Cup qualifying match surprised fans.

Throughout the week, several of the biggest players in football have swapped club for country as they represent their nations during the ongoing international break.

With almost every European nation competing in UEFA's qualifying matches for the 2026 World Cup, the top players within the Premier League have been busy in recent days.

Among those players is Liverpool's star summer signing Isak, who was named in Sweden's squad for their qualifying matches against Switzerland and Kosovo.

With the striker yet to make a massive impact at Liverpool, many fans tuned in to his first match with Sweden this week, and it's safe to say that they were not impressed.

Heading into the international break, Sweden knew that they faced an uphill battle if they hoped to secure a spot in the World Cup next summer.

After their opening two matches in Group B of the European World Cup Qualifiers, Sweden had just one point, hurting their chances of making it to the top of the group and earning automatic qualification or even into second to gain a spot in the play-offs.

But the situation is now even worse, as Sweden lost 2-0 to Switzerland at home on Friday evening, and some fans are blaming Isak for a massive opportunity he missed during the game.

Thanks to a well worked opportunity from Tottenham Hotspurs' Lucas Bergvall, Isak received a cross just inches away from the Swiss net, only to miss the target and hit the post.

Unfortunately for Isak, this summed up his performance in 2-0 loss at the Friends Arena, as he registered one off-target shot, a missed big chance, just 12 completed passes from 16 attempts, with only one duel won out of seven.

Reacting to Isak's performance, one fan wrote on X: ""This guy has single-handedly tanked his country’s chances of qualifying for the World Cup through his selfish behaviour over the summer. Swedes should consider Alexander Isak a national disgrace."

While a Newcastle United fan claimed: "All joking and bias aside, Alexander Isak has genuinely let his country down tonight.

"Sweden face a serious chance of missing out on World Cup qualification with an unfit and out-of-form striker adding a negative output to the team due to his conduct."

As he attempted to force his move to join Liverpool from Newcastle United over the summer, Isak decided to go on strike, refusing to train with his Newcastle teammates or participate in their opening fixtures this season.

Therefore, after he arrived at Anfield following the British record transfer fee of around £125million it has taken him some time to build up his match fitness, starting just four games so far this season.

And it is exactly this that Sweden and rival fans believe could have contributed to his performance against Switzerland and, therefore, the dire situation that Sweden find themselves in ahead of the World Cup.
