Alexander Isak 'cut price tag' revealed as Liverpool deal with Newcastle 'in play'

A Liverpool FC journalist has provided a huge update on the future of Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak, who has been linked with a move to the Premier League champions this summer.

Isak, 25, has been linked with several clubs over the past few months, with Arsenal and PSG also showing interest, but Liverpool seem his most likely destination if he were to leave Newcastle.

It emerged on Monday that the player reportedly wants to leave Newcastle, with Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, reporting that “For Isak it depends on Newcastle, because the player talked to the coach and the club at the end of the season because he would like to leave but Newcastle are not open to that, at the moment” before adding how “it depends on Newcastle and Isak's discussion, if the club will be open to having him on the market”.

Meanwhile, Rousing The Kop’s Graeme Bailey maintained that Liverpool were interested in the player and that “it’s going to come to a head” soon.

Bailey said: “Isak has always been in play. I’m confident with my sources on him and what we’re hearing.

“Newcastle are willing to break their wage structure on a new deal for him, but Liverpool are keeping a close eye on the talks and it’s going to come to a head very soon. There’s not much coming out from Newcastle’s end so we wait to see which way it goes.”

He added: “Liverpool are not being deterred, we’re not sure quite why that is, but they seem to think there’s a chink of light there.

“Whilst this new contract hasn’t been signed, that will remain the case.”

Bailey also claimed that Liverpool could get the Swede at a cut price of around £120-130m but this would depend on whether the player rejects a new contract offer by the Magpies.

If Isak were to trade life in the North East of England for the North West, he would lead an already star-studded Liverpool side, which has been further bolstered by the additions of Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong this summer.

Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg named two other players who Liverpool consider as options, alongside Isak.

"Liverpool are currently focusing on three concrete options in their search for a new number 9: Hugo Ekitike, Alexander Isak, and Victor Osimhen," Plettenberg wrote on X.

"#LFC have conducted thorough checks and gathered information on all of them. Ekitike, for example, is very high on the list. The French striker knows that if he moves to Liverpool, he will need to be patient because the club must sell players first."
