Liverpool fans have noticed the amazing hidden tribute included in the club's official squad list.

In just four weeks, Liverpool will get the defence of the Premier League title underway as the 2025/26 season begins with their match against Bournemouth at Anfield.

The match will be perhaps more important than any other in recent history as it mark the first official game since the tragic passing of Liverpool forward Jota and his brother Andre Silva earlier this month.

Since the fatal car crash involving Jota, Liverpool players and fans have been mourning the loss the club legend, with many of them releasing touching and heartfelt statements and tributes.

And now, as Liverpool officially updated the club website to show the squad for the upcoming season, fans have noticed a beautiful tribute for Jota.

Like many clubs, Liverpool separate their squad list on the website into different positions, with goalkeepers, defenders, midfielders and forwards grouped together, while players currently on loan are put into their own tab.

Included in the updated squad list for 2025/26 were new signings Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez, who were of course listed as defenders, and Florian Wirtz, who surprisingly has been listed as a forward rather than a midfielder.

But better than any new signings added to the squad list, is Liverpool's decision to give Jota his own section on the squad list, immortalising the Liverpool legend.

Listed under a 'forever' tab, Liverpool have included a link to Jota's profile on the club website which, when clicked, leads to a touching message reading: "Diogo Jota is immortalised as Liverpool Football Club's number 20 forever."

Jota's profile also includes details of Jota's career both with Liverpool and elsewhere, alongside tributes signifying his importance to the club and fans.

Reacting to the decision, one fan wrote on X: "Diogo Jota is now immortalised on the Liverpool website squad list, under the category “forever”. What a beautiful touch."

While one wrote: "Awesome club doing this. Amazing. So proud to be a red."

And another added: "Oh this is gorgeous. The club and staff have handled this so compassionately and sensitively, proud to be a Red. In the most tragic moment, hope has bloomed. Forever 20."

In perhaps their most touching tribute, Liverpool confirmed that they would be forever retiring the number 20, which was worn by Jota throughout his time at the club, at all levels.

It read: "After consultation with his wife, Rute, and family, the club can announce the squad number will be retired in honour and memory of Diogo across all levels, including LFC Women and Academy.

"The move is recognition of not only the immeasurable contribution our lad from Portugal made to the Reds’ on-pitch successes over the last five years, but also the profound personal impact he had on his teammates, colleagues and supporters and the everlasting connections he built with them."

FSG CEO of Football, Michael Edwards further explained the decision, adding: "“By retiring this squad number, we are making it eternal – and therefore never to be forgotten.

“Diogo joined us in 2020, he won us number 20, and he wore – with honour, distinction and affection – the number 20.

“As far as Liverpool Football Club is concerned, he will be forever our number 20.”
