Liverpool set to offer player huge pay increase to fend off Real Madrid and Barcelona 'interest'

Liverpool set to offer player huge pay increase to fend off Real Madrid and Barcelona 'interest'

Liverpool are looking to tie down one of their star players to fend off interest from Barcelona and Real Madrid

Liverpool are looking to fend off interest in Trent Alexander-Arnold by offering the full-back a new long-term contract.

Alexander-Arnold, who broke through the academy made his Liverpool debut back in 2016 as a fresh-faced teenager.

Since then, Alexander-Arnold has made over 250 appearances for his boyhood club and was named Liverpool vice-captain at the start of the 23/24 season by manager Jurgen Klopp.

According to 90Min, Liverpool are set to offer the 24-year-old a new long-term deal which will see his wages rise to around £250,000 per week.

The report also claimed that the new contract offer is a bid to fend off the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid, who are reportedly interested in bringing Alexander-Arnold to La Liga.

It has been reported that talks between Liverpool and Alexander-Arnold are going well and the Anfield club are said to be confident that an agreement can be reached before Christmas.

The Englishman is currently recovering from a hamstring injury that he suffered during Liverpool’s 3-1 win over Aston Villa before the international break.

Apart from Alexander-Arnold, 90Min also reported that fellow full-back Kostas Tsimikas is also set to sign a new deal to extend his stay at Anfield.

The Greece international’s current deal is set to expire in 2025 but the extension will see the contract run until 2027.

Tsimikas was brought in to provide competition for first-choice left-back Andy Robertson back in 2020.

To date, the 27-year-old has often played in competitions like the FA Cup and League Cup.

Tsimikas was the hero back in the 21/22 season after he scored the winning penalty against Chelsea to clinch the FA Cup at Wembley.
