Liverpool supporters were quick to offer their verdict on new signing Jeremy Jacquet after the 20-year-old featured in Stade Rennais’ 3-0 defeat against Marseille at the Velodrome on February 3.
Just one day after agreeing to sign for Liverpool, Jacquet returned to action for Stade Rennais but could not stop Roberto De Zerbi’s side from running riot as Amine Gouiri, Mason Greenwood and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang got on the scoresheet during a convincing win.
Jacquet, who will officially join Liverpool ahead of the 2026/27 season, played in a back five and, despite the result, still impressed with his performance.
The 20-year-old’s £60 million transfer is subject to a work permit and international clearance, with the France youth international penning a five-year deal through to 2031.

For now, Liverpool fans will have to watch his performances from afar while he competes in Ligue 1 until the end of the season.
Following Stade Rennais’ defeat in Marseille, a four-and-a-half-minute clip of Jacquet’s performance went viral on social media.
The defender appeared comfortable in possession while also putting in several important tackles and blocks during what was a complete performance.
Of course, it remains unclear what role Jacquet will play in Arne Slot’s side, with Ibrahima Konate’s future unclear as he approaches the end of his current deal, while Giovanni Leoni is sidelined with an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury until at least the early part of next season.
Fans were quick to offer their thoughts on Jacquet’s performance on social media.
One said: “Worth every penny we spent, very good player on and off the ball.”
Another added: “Can very much see why we wanted him, his natural game is exactly what Slot wants. Very similar to what we wanted from Guehi. His passing is excellent for a 20-year-old. Very sharp and confident.”
A third claimed: “He reminds me stylistically of Antonio Rudiger. Not many weaknesses. Potential to be a proper Virgil heir. Just go get Nico Schlotterbeck and sign Konate up, and we’re set at centre half for 7/8 yrs. Three top young centre-backs have been bought as well, who can all break through. Fair to say it is needed.”
While a fourth commented: “What a player, finally another CB besides VVD that can actually pass the ball.”
