A Liverpool player will reportedly be recalled by Arne Slot following his side’s 3-2 defeat against Bournemouth.
On Saturday (January 24), Slot’s side came from 2-0 behind to make it 2-2 with ten minutes to play, but Amine Adli’s last-gasp strike broke Liverpool hearts on a wet and windy evening on the south Coast.
Despite starting the weekend in fourth, Liverpool ended it in sixth place due to Chelsea and Manchester United both winning their respective fixtures against Crystal Palace and Arsenal on Sunday (January 25).
Rumours of Xabi Alonso potentially replacing Slot at Anfield continue to circulate following the defeat, but for now the Dutchman remains in charge ahead of Liverpool’s final Champions League league phase clash against Qarabag on Wednesday (January 28).

Meanwhile, with the winter transfer window open until Monday, February 2, there is still time for some last-minute recruitment to bolster Slot’s squad.

However, the Premier League champions are unlikely to spend big having purchased around £440 million worth of players just last summer when Florian Wirtz, Alexander Isak, Hugo Ekitike, Milos Kerkez, and Jeremie Frimpong all arrived.
But a Liverpool loanee could be set to return to the club after a spell at a Championship club.
As reported by The Athletic, Birmingham City are closing in on a £7 million deal for Alaves winger Carlos Vincente, meaning 20-year-old Lewis Koumas may return to Liverpool earlier than expected, having initially been loaned for the duration of the 2025/26 campaign.
A break clause will likely be triggered ahead of the Wales international’s return.
The Chester-born winger, who was loaned to Stoke City last season, has featured 25 times for the Blues and is also attracting interest from other Championship sides in relation to a possible loan move for the second half of the season.

As reported by the Liverpool Echo’s Ian Doyle, “Hull City have emerged as strong contenders” to sign the youngster for the remainder of the season.
Koumas is the son of former Tranmere Rovers, Wigan Athletic, and West Bromwich Albion attacking midfielder Jason Koumas, who also played for Wales.
Lewis has made one appearance for Liverpool, against Southampton in the FA Cup fifth round, which came during Jurgen Klopp’s final campaign. The forward scored the opening goal in a 3-0 win at Anfield.
