Jamie Vardy lined up for blockbuster move as four 'possible' offers remain on the table

Wrexham are lining up a blockbuster move to sign Jamie Vardy as a free agent, it has been reported - with the legendary striker already having 'four' possible offers on the table.

The Red Dragons have failed to win any of their opening three Championship matches of the new season, losing two of them.

They suffered a 2-1 defeat to Birmingham City on Friday evening.

Phil Parkinson's side are set for a busy deadline day, with a fee agreed to sign midfielder Callum O'Hare from Sheffield United.

They have so far spent around £25 million in the window, with Issa Kabore, Ben Whiteman, Anthony Patterson, Jacques Ekomie and Danny Imray all joining the club.

The £8 million fee for goalkeeper Patterson, signed from Sunderland, represents a club-record deal for Wrexham.

Vardy, meanwhile, has been a free agent since leaving Italian side Cremonese following their relegation to Serie B, with journalist Ben Jacobs claiming that Wrexham are now keen.

He has launched a new podcast, titled 'Jamie Vardy's Having A Party', and has won the rights to broadcast seven Bundesliga matches on Friday nights via his new YouTube channel.

Vardy has been linked with a host of clubs, including newly-relegated Championship side West Ham.

League One side Sheffield Wednesday, Vardy's first club before he was released at the age of 15, are also interested.

Wednesday are under certain EFL restrictions after coming out of administration under new owner David Storch, but Storch said earlier in August that the club would 'figure out how to get around the restrictions to put something in front of Jamie'.

According to Sky Sports reporter Rob Dorsett, those are not the only clubs that are keen on signing Vardy.

He has named Brazilian giants Sao Paulo as a 'possible' option, alongside a move to the MLS. The MLS uses a Discovery Rights system to decide which club can negotiate with Vardy if interest reaches that stage.

Dorsett adds that Vardy is in no rush to choose his next club, as he will delay his decision until after the transfer deadline.

Because he is already a free agent before the deadline, he can sign for a new club at any time and be registered as part of their 25-man squad.

"Jamie Vardy will wait until after the transfer window closes before making a decision about his future," Dorsett wrote on X (Twitter).

"Offers from West Ham, Sheffield Wednesday, the MLS and Sao Paulo remain as 'possible'."

Wrexham's pursuit appears to be new in terms of the current transfer window, though there has been long-standing interest in bringing the Leicester legend to the Racecourse Ground.

In 2025, Wrexham executive director Humphrey Ker told SPORTbible: "There's nothing to say that Jamie Vardy wouldn't be a great Wrexham player.

"It's not a name I've had mentioned inside the building before but, you know, age and profile wouldn't put us off."

Vardy scored seven goals in Serie A after his arrival at Cremonese at the end of August last year, but could not help them to avoid relegation on the final day of the season.
