Florian Wirtz’s agent, Volker Struth, has made a huge claim involving Xabi Alonso when speaking to the German press.
Despite enduring a tough start to life in the Premier League following his £116 million transfer from Bayer Leverkusen to Liverpool, Wirtz has recently seen an upturn in his form.
It took the German until 27 December, during a 2–1 win over Wolves, to score his first goal for the 20-time Premier League champions.
Since then, he has registered five more strikes, while also producing eight assists in 35 games.

While it seems that Wirtz is settling into life on Merseyside, his agent Struth has made an interesting claim about last summer’s transfer business involving the player.
Bayern Munich and Manchester City harboured interest in the 22-year-old, but it was ultimately Liverpool who got a deal over the line.

However, Struth has now revealed how he contacted Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez over a potential move to the Santiago Bernabéu.
Speaking to German outlet Bild, the agent, who heads up the Sports 360 agency, said: “During the period when a move to Liverpool or Bayern was being discussed, I called Xabi Alonso and told him: ‘You have to take the lad from Leverkusen with you to Real.’”
Alonso had moved to Real Madrid from Leverkusen in the summer of 2025, having worked with Wirtz during his time with the Bundesliga side.
Struth continued: “Xabi replied: ‘You don’t have to tell me that, you have to tell Florentino Pérez.’
“So I actually sent him a message: ‘Dear Florentino, I’ve told you many times before: I have a player here whom I would highly recommend. Florian Wirtz makes every team in the world better.’”
The agent then explained how Pérez passed the message on to Real chief executive Sánchez, but no deal materialised.
Instead, the La Liga giants signed Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dean Huijsen, Álvaro Carreras and Franco Mastantuono.
“That year, it simply wasn’t the right time due to the squad and the budget,” Struth added.
“Even Real Madrid’s coffers aren’t always overflowing. But my wish remains that Florian will play there one day.”
Liverpool return to action at home against West Ham United on Saturday 28 February with Wirtz likely to feature.
