A moment involving Rio Ferdinand and interviewer Danny Ramirez at the 2026 World Cup draw is going viral after a question was asked that "wasn't in the script".
Ferdinand co-hosted the drawn-out ceremony at Washington's Kennedy Center on Friday and joined several sporting greats on stage, including Tom Brady, Wayne Gretzky, Aaron Judge and Shaquille O'Neal.
The former Manchester United and England defender, who is reportedly in extensive talks to join Fox as a World Cup pundit, helped conduct the draw alongside broadcaster Samantha Johnson.
He was also involved in a pre-produced segment with actors Matthew McConaughey and Salma Hayek, but arguably the biggest talking point involved Hollywood actor-turned-reporter Danny Ramirez.

As you can see in the footage below, Ramirez was interviewing former Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas when he asked Ferdinand: "Rio, did you ever get to score on him?"
Moments later, Ferdinand replied: "What type of question is that, Danny? I'm a defender. See what I'm saying, what are you trying to do out here? I'm going to talk to you later."

The segment appeared to be a rehearsed joke, but some viewers took the exchange as a serious one, with many taking to social media to give their opinion on the moment, as well as the draw in general.
One fan wrote: "Rio Ferdinand absolutely shutting down a 'stupid' question from the side reporter. This is such a disorganised mess of a draw."
A second commented: "How’s he getting mad over that?" and a third said: "Someone really needs to study how FIFA and UEFA are able to outcringe each other with every award show and draw show."
A fourth wrote: "Casillas is like 'keep me out of this'" and a fifth added: "The fact nobody can tell that this is clearly a joke is concerning."

Ferdinand's presence at the draw has been a talking point for much of the week.

Speaking in an interview with the BBC, Ferdinand was asked about ticket prices and the need to have proper football fans in attendance to bring the atmosphere.
"I am a man of the people in terms of I'm from a place where we were always hoping for things to be accessible," he said. "I know that the people behind the scenes at FIFA are aiming and working to something like that now, whether they get there for that remains to be seen.

"I think we have to be conscious of that and I think FIFA are definitely people who are conscious of that, the powers that be there."
He added: "I think we can look at every industry, every sector, we have that conversation about things and I think it's more about making sure that there's a product that's super elite that matches what's on the pitch and then everyone can feel that it's justified taking time out and working hard to go and get tickets."
The morning after the draw and Ferdinand posted a picture of himself with a newspaper headline that read: "Man of the people". He also tagged Jamie Carragher, who appeared to respond to Rio's comments.
