Erling Haaland and the rest of his Norway teammates performed the viral "Viking row" celebration after their win over Senegal – and it will go down as one of the standout moments of the 2026 World Cup.
Norway sealed their place in the round of 32 on Monday night as goals from Haaland (2) and Marcus Holmgren Pedersen secured a memorable 3-2 victory.
To celebrate their latest triumph, every member of Norway's travelling party, including head coach Stale Solbakken, sat on the MetLife Stadium pitch after the full-time whistle and mimed being in a rowboat.
As you can see in the footage below, captain Martin Odegaard held a mallet and banged the drum twice before everyone from the stands rowed simultaneously.

Those who were lined up in the Viking longboat formation also joined in to the beat of the drum. Of course, the rhythm is similar to Iceland's famous "Viking Clap", which was performed at Euro 2016.

Speaking about the "Viking row" in his post-match interview, Haaland said: "I saw it online; it's gone completely viral. Martin [Ødegaard] asked me before the game: 'Do you think we should join in?' I said, 'If we win, let's do it, why not?'"
Solbakken, meanwhile, said it was "fun for the fans" but they would not be performing the row beyond this summer's World Cup. "This can be a gimmick during the tournament," he added.

Ahead of kick-off, hundreds of fans performed the routine in Times Square and after each beat, they uttered the word "Ro!".
Erling Haaland thinks Norway will come up short against France
Norway will come up against France in their final group game on June 26. Reacting to the upcoming clash, Haaland downplayed Norway's chances.
"I couldn't care too much about that game now. We're through. We're through," he said. "They're probably going to win against us, they're probably going to win the whole tournament."

Haaland has enjoyed a prolific start to this summer's World Cup. Lionel Messi leads the scoring charts with five goals from two games, while Haaland and Kylian Mbappe are second in the standings with four goals each.
"I'm enjoying it a lot," the Manchester City forward said in his post-match interview on Monday. "I've been enjoying playing for Norway ever since my debut [in 2019]."
