Rap sensation Drake is poised to make $1 million if Canada reach the World Cup round of 16 for the first time in their history.

Co-hosts Canada secured their place in the knockout stages after finishing second to Switzerland in Group B following a final group stage loss.

With four points from three games, Jesse Marsch's men still qualified ahead of Bosnia-Herzegovina on goal difference.

Because they didn't top the group, they missed out on the chance to continue playing on home soil in a huge blow.

With a round of 32 clash in South Africa in Los Angeles on Sunday, Canada will therefore become the first co-host to play a World Cup game in a different country.

But Drake, one of Canada's favourite sons, is still backing the team to pick up the victory at the SoFi Stadium.

'Iceman' regularly places big bets on all types of sporting events, doing so with Stake - the gambling brand which he has an affiliation to.

Drake's latest flutter saw him put on $770,000 for Canada to beat South Africa.

The 39-year-old shared a screenshot of his wager and revealed that his bet came as a result after Black Coffee, a DJ and producer from South Africa, piped up in his direct messages.

Drake wrote: "@realblackcoffee was chirping in the DM I had to raise the STAKES".

Drake lost $1 million bet on World Cup final

Hailing from Toronto, Drake flies the flag for Canada and backed them to beat Argentina in the Copa America semi final back in 2024.

He placed a $300,000 bet that would have secured him $2.8 million - though it didn't come in as Argentina won 2-0 and went on to win the tournament.

In the last World Cup, Drake fancied Argentina to beat France in the 2022 final at the Lusail Stadium and put on a $1 million bet.

He made the prediction while wearing a Napoli shirt on a stream and it was accurate as Lionel Messi finally became a World Cup winner.

The triumph came after a pulsating 3-3 draw which featured a Messi brace and a Kylian Mbappe hat-trick - leading to a nail-biting penalty shoot-out where Gonzalo Montiel scored the winner.

But because Drake had bet on Argentina to win in normal time, his wager was not valid and he lost out.
