Significant compensation will be due from FIFA after Ismael Kone's horrific leg break in Canada's World Cup win over Qatar.
The 6-0 hammering for Jesse Marsch's side was overshadowed by a horrendous injury suffered by Kone early in the second half in Vancouer.
Kone was stretchered off after a poor challenge from Assim Madibo, who was sent off after a VAR review and later apologised in the dressing room.
The midfielder was in visible pain but also able to wave to fans who chanted his name as he was taken down the tunnel and was rushed to hospital.

Speaking after the game, manager Jesse Marsch said that those nearby "could hear the bone snap" and said "everybody’s shaken for him".
After he posted a message on Instagram thanking fans and his teammates for the support, Canada put out an official statement confirming that Kone "underwent successful surgery to repair a lower limb fracture" and added that he is "expected to make a full recovery".
In a press conference, Marsch added that the surgery "took about an hour and a half" and was carried out by the "top three surgeons".

He stated: “So by the time he got there, the surgeons were there and they were ready. And then we just had to communicate with our medical team and make sure that the surgery was the best option that we thought. But I could see by meeting them and hearing what they had to say about the situation that they he was in really good hands.
Though no official timeline has been given for his return, Kone is set to be out for a period of four to five months.
And because of the injury, FIFA will pay compensation to his club Sassuolo.
How much will FIFA pay Sassuolo for Ismael Kone injury?
The FIFA Club Protection Programme was designed to cover costs of players who suffer accidental injuries when released by their clubs to play international football.
Illnesses and medical treatment costs are not included but heart attacks and strokes are in the policy.
All matches, training and travelling fits the criteria, as long as it takes place in the operative period and the absence is longer than 28 days.
Kone's injury definitely applies and Sassuolo are to be compensated given their player will not be available for a decent chunk of the 2026/27 campaign.
The compensation owed to the Italian side is based off his fixed salary, which is said to be £22,600 per week.
With no bonuses factored in, Kone is believed to earn around £3,200 per day.
With the first 28 days not counted for and Kone out for roughly 150 days, Sassuolo will likely be paid around £480,000.
His club issued a statement on the matter, writing: "The operation to repair the fracture in his left leg was a complete success. The player will begin his rehabilitation programme in the coming days.
“The whole club sends Ismaël their best wishes for a speedy recovery.”
Canada continue their campaign without Kone against Switzerland in Vancouver on Wednesday.
