Argentina players were seen singing a savage chant towards Barcelona star Raphinha following their impressive 4-1 win over Brazil in a crucial World Cup qualifier.

The World Cup holders put in a dominant display at the Estadio Mâs Monumental, with goals from Julien Alvarez, Alexis Mac Allister, Enzo Fernandez and Giuliano Simeone grabbing the goals.

A fine strike by Wolves star Matheus Cunha gave the visitors hope in the 26th minute, but it wasn't enough to stop Brazil falling to their worst defeat in World Cup qualifiers.

Prior to the game, Raphinha goaded the Argentina players when he told a TV station that Brazil were going to "beat them up on the pitch and off the pitch."

The Barcelona forward also claimed he was 'guaranteed' to score in the game, leading to the Argentina players firing back after the full-time whistle.

Footage following the match showed the players singing: "A minute of silence... Shh!... For Raphinha who is dead!"

The Argentina home fans also got involved during the match as they hurled abuse at the former Leeds man from the stands.

"Sub in Raphinha, you son of a b*tch," they chanted.

Following the game, Brazil captain Marquinhos apologised to the fans after an "embarrassing" display in the Argentinian capital.

"What we did here can't happen again," The PSG man told Brazilian TV station Globo.

"It's hard to talk about it in the heat of the moment. It's embarrassing."

He added: "We started the game badly, far below what we could do and they're on a great run of confidence. They knew how to play smart. I'm sorry for our fans.

"It's not just the coach's fault, It's the players' fault too.

"There's no secret formula in football where you make a choice and it works out.

"We can all do better. We have to share the blame. It's about understanding the moment and being humble," he concluded.
