The BBC have confirmed that one star pundit will leave his Euro 2024 role in order to take a different job.

BBC Sport have taken an all-star cast of pundits to Germany to cover Euro 2024, with the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Frank Lampard and Joe Hart joining regulars like Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer.

Fellow broadcaster ITV have also boasted some big names in their line-up, including Ian Wright, Roy Keane and Gary Neville.

A few pundits have already finished their Euros duties for various reasons, and now an England legend has left the BBC to return home.

Legendary England striker Wayne Rooney has provided punditry on several games at the Euros, but he won't be covering any more matches.

After analysing Belgium's goalless draw with Ukraine on Wednesday afternoon, Rooney revealed that he will return to England to begin his tenure as Plymouth Argyle manager.

He said: "I fly home tomorrow, the lads are back in on the third of July, so I'll be home and straight down to Plymouth."

The 38-year-old agreed to take charge of the Championship club before he flew out to Germany to work with the BBC.

On Wednesday, it was confirmed that Rooney's first game in charge will be against Sheffield Wednesday on August 11.

When host Lineker asked Rooney about the excitement of returning to coaching, Rooney said: "The excitement was there today when you see the fixtures.

"You look through the opening games, your Christmas schedule and stuff so yeah really excited."

Shearer then joked they are the pundits that will "start criticising you".
