Manchester United and England legend Wayne Rooney has named the one regret he has from his Euro 2024 experience after completing punditry duty for the BBC.

Rooney has worked with the broadcaster throughout the group stages of Euro 2024.

He made his last appearance on Wednesday for the final set of group games, with the 37-year-old now leaving his role to begin his first pre-season as manager of Championship side Plymouth.

Rooney has been a popular face on BBC's coverage, and has used his experience of leading England at recent major tournaments to give some insight into the current dressing room.

Speaking on the Football Daily podcast with Kelly Cates, though, ! named the one thing that he regretted not being able to do while he was working on Euro 2024.

He said: "Yeah, it's been OK. Obviously, it's different and new to what I've been used to.

"I've done TV in the past but spent quite a bit of time here. Yeah, it's been a bit different, but I've enjoyed it.

"Unfortunately, I haven't had any of the England games to talk about really, and the games I've done haven't been the greatest! But it's nice to spend some time here."

Rooney was not selected to take part in either England game that the BBC have shown so far, with Rio Ferdinand and Micah Richards chosen instead.

On the experience as a pundit, Rooney added: "Obviously a lot of the tournaments over the last 20 years I've been involved in as a player, and now being on the other side and seeing the perspective from a pundit's point of view.

"We've seen the back and forward between the England camp and the pundits, so it's a bit strange.

"But I think everything that's been said has been right, really, and the players and the manager have come out and all said the same things.

"You always want to try and be careful, but also want to be truthful with the words you give.

"I fly home tomorrow. The lads [at Plymouth] are back in on the third of July so I'll be home and straight down to Plymouth."
