David Beckham has slid into Luke Littler's DMs ahead of World Championship final with 'crazy' message

Luke Littler has also received messages from a number of footballers, including Luke Shaw.

David Beckham is the latest big name celebrity to send a message to Luke Littler ahead of tonight's PDC World Darts Championship final.

The 16-year-old, a boyhood Manchester United fan from Warrington, has received a ton of support as he prepares to face world number one Luke Humphries.

Ahead of his last 16 clash against five-time world champion Raymond van Barneveld, he was sent messages by Luke Shaw, Gary Neville, Rio Ferdinand and Jonny Evans.

"It's just crazy," he told BBC Sport. "People I've looked up to, especially my club Man United wishing me luck."

And this week, David Beckham slid into Littler's DMs to voice his support for the youngster, who has recorded wins over Brendan Dolan and Rob Cross in the final stages.

Speaking to talkSPORT pair Andy Goldstein and Darren Bent, Littler opened up about the messages and even revealed what Beckham said.

"It has been crazy. My Twitter followers have shot up, my Instagram followers have shot out the window. I've even had messages off David Beckham, Romeo [Beckham], Luke Shaw…"

Goldstein, taken aback by the revelation, intervened and said: "You got a message from Becks? Was it a DM? What did it say?"

Littler responded, saying: "I think it said: 'Well done, once a Red always a Red'. Then Romeo is there [at the Alexandra Palace] tonight and he said good luck."

Last week, Littler opened up on his conversation with Arsenal pair Declan Rice and Aaron Ramsdale ahead of his clash against Raymond van Barneveld.

Rice and Ramsdale had asked security to have their photo taken with the 16-year-old, who was staying at the same London hotel as Arsenal.

“I said, ‘They want a picture with me?’” Littler told the Telegraph. “They came out and they were like, ‘You’re smashing it. Can’t believe you’re only 16. Just keep it up’.”

Littler has already earned a life-changing £200,000 after beating the likes of Brendan Dolan and Rob Cross. He will now be hoping to scoop the £500,000 prize money that comes with winning the Sid Waddell trophy.

Can he do it with a victory over Humphries? Let us know.
