Cole Palmer violates Chelsea teammate with 11-word Instagram comment about being club captain

The England international mugged off his fellow Chelsea star following 2-0 pre-season win over Bayer Leverkusen

Chelsea star Cole Palmer left a scathing 11-word comment under teammate Tosin Adarabioyo’s Instagram post on Saturday.

Tosin played 45 minutes of the 2-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen at Stamford Bridge on Friday as goals from Brazilian pair Estevao and Joao Pedro saw the Blues overcome the one-time Bundesliga champions.

Palmer started the win in west London before he was withdrawn at the break in the club’s first game since their Club World Cup triumph in America over PSG last month.

The 23-year-old shone in the final over the French giants, providing two assists and netting once to maintain his rise as one of the game’s best players at present.

Showing his funny side, though, Palmer took to Instagram to poke fun at Tosin over the weekend.

In an Instagram post, Tosin posted a series of pictures from the game against Bayer Leverkusen, with the caption: “Back on the pitch, back with the fans, and back chasing wins.”

In a number of images, it’s clear that the former Fulham man is captaining the side, which Palmer took light-hearted offence to.

“Wait how on earth have you got the armband before me ???” Palmer commented on Tosin’s post.

Palmer is universally loved by Chelsea fans, quickly rising to fan favourite in west London following his surprise arrival from Manchester City two years ago.

While Palmer endured a tough second half to the season, he’s been arguably Chelsea’s best player since joining from City.

The England international has scored 37 league goals and provided an additional 19 assists for the Blues, and has established himself as one of the most important characters in the Chelsea dressing room.

Tosin and Palmer are close

His banter with Tosin, who joined from Fulham last summer, shouldn’t come as a surprise, with Palmer previously admitting that the duo are inseparable.

When discussing Tosin recently, the Blues superstar said: “We know the same people and he’s just similar to me. So we’ve got on really well ever since he’s been at Chelsea. And now you can’t separate us.”

And the 27-year-old, who is one of the older players in the Chelsea dressing room, has previously drawn praise from head coach Enzo Maresca.

“Very impressed. I know Tosin since City,” Maresca said last September as he hailed the centre-back’s impact following his arrival.

"Very impressed with him, the way he has behaved on and off the pitch. He is one of the leaders in the dressing room. We are very delighted and very happy with him.”

Colwill injury presents Tosin with Chelsea chance

Tosin may well see his game time increase in the coming campaign following Levi Colwill’s serious knee injury.

Colwill started all but three league games for the Blues last season, but is expected to miss most of the 2025/26 campaign having suffered an ACL injury in training last week.

The England international has already undergone surgery and is set to be sidelined for the next six to nine months.
