Cole Palmer reveals what Donald Trump really said to him during Chelsea's Club World Cup celebrations

The England international scored a brace and provided an assist in Chelsea's 3-0 win over PSG in the Club World Cup final.

Cole Palmer has finally revealed what Donald Trump said to him when the pair met during Chelsea’s celebrations following the Club World Cup final.

Palmer, 23, starred in Chelsea’s recent Club World Cup triumph against Paris Saint-Germain with a brace and an assist for Joao Pedro’s striker as the Blues romped to a 3-0 win over the Ligue 1 side in New Jersey on July 13.

The 23-year-old was named Club World Cup MVP following his impressive performance and was presented with the award by U.S. President Trump, who was in attendance at the MetLife Stadium.

But the President did not take a step back and instead remained front and centre while Chelsea skipper Reece James lifted the trophy.

Shortly after the bizarre event, James was asked what Trump said to him while the pair interacted.

“To be honest, it was quite loud,” said the Chelsea right-back. “I couldn't hear too much. He just congratulated me and the team for lifting the trophy and told us to enjoy the moment.”

Meanwhile, Palmer explained how he was “confused” by the ordeal.

"I knew he was going to be here but I didn't know he was going to be on the stand when we lifted the trophy,” said Palmer.

“I was a bit confused, yeah."

However, Palmer has now shed new light on exactly what was said between him and Trump.

In an exclusive interview with the Mail, Palmer opened up about what Trump said to him.

“When he gave me the award, he said his son is my biggest fan,” Palmer said.

“I can't remember what I said. I think I said, ‘Thank you’ or something.”

The Chelsea man is currently on holiday in Saint Kitts and Nevis, where he has family.

“It’s important to come back to where your family is from,” Palmer added. “It’s nice to see how they grew up and their culture compared to ours… we were in America (for the Club World Cup) and it's close. So, we thought we'd just come over and see everything.”

Donald Trump on Club World Cup

Trump clearly enjoyed himself at the Club World Cup and will, no doubt, be in attendance at next summer's North American World Cup.

"The game is about unity, it is about everyone getting together," the U.S President said on DAZN after Chelsea's triumph.

"It is about a lot of love between different international countries.

"This is the most international sport on the planet, so it can really bring the world together."
