Chelsea's season rocked as club confirm player to miss most of next campaign after shock injury

An official statement has been released by Chelsea.

Chelsea have been hit with a bitter injury blow ahead of the 25/26 season.

The Blues, under the guidance of Enzo Maresca, had a decent 24/25 season as they won the UEFA Europa Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup.

Maresca also achieved the main aim of leading the club back into the UEFA Champions League.

So far this summer, the Blues have added players such as Joao Pedro, Jamie Gittens, Jorrel Hato, Liam Delap, Estevao, Dario Essugo, Mamadou Sarr and Kendry Paez to their roster.

However, with the domestic season set to get underway next weekend, Chelsea have been handed a huge injury blow.

It has been confirmed that defender Levi Colwill underwent surgery after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

A statement read: "Chelsea Football Club has released the following update regarding Levi Colwill…

"Defender Levi Colwill has today undergone successful surgery to an anterior cruciate ligament injury. The 22-year-old had reported back to Cobham for pre-season at the start of this week, before unfortunately sustaining the injury in training."

It continued: "Medical assessments confirmed surgery would be the required course of action.

"Levi will now begin his recovery and be supported by the club's medical department at Cobham during his rehabilitation phase."

According to Fabrizio Romano, Colwill is set to miss the majority of the 25/26 season.

During the 24/25 campaign, Colwill played a key role as he made a total of 43 appearances across all competitions for Chelsea, scoring twice and assisting a further two goals.

Colwill is now the second England player to have been hit with a major injury.

On Thursday morning, Tottenham Hotspur confirmed that midfielder James Maddison will also miss a large chunk of the new campaign following an anterior cruciate ligament.

The 28-year-old was stretchered off during Spurs' pre-season friendly clash against Newcastle United in South Korea last week.
