An update has been issued on the future of Cole Palmer amid links with a transfer to Manchester United.
Throughout the winter transfer window, which shuts on Monday (February 2), Palmer, 23, has been linked with a return to Manchester.
The England international was born and raised in the northwest city while also learning his trade at Manchester City before he signed for Chelsea for £42.5 million in 2023.
Since then, Palmer has contributed with 48 goals and 29 assists in 110 appearances for Liam Rosenior’s side.

However, a recent report from The Sun claimed that the 23-year-old attacking midfielder is not “enjoying life down south” and “misses” his friends from Manchester.

There have also been rumours that Chelsea want to build the team around Brazilian winger Estevao rather than Palmer.
Meanwhile, the Guardian claimed that the player is “homesick” and open to a move to Old Trafford.
It is also well-documented that Palmer was a United supporter when he was growing up.
Speaking to TNT Sports after scoring a hat-trick in Chelsea’s 4-3 win over the Red Devils at Stamford Bridge in 2024, Palmer admitted: “Yeah, when I was growing up, I was a United fan.”
In another previous interview with Sky Sports in 2025, the City academy graduate said that Wayne Rooney was his idol during his youth when he used to attend matches at Old Trafford.
On Tuesday (January 27), Sky Sports’ Kaveh Solhekol issued a further update on Palmer’s current situation and revealed what he knows about a potential move to United.
“Cole Palmer is untouchable and happy at Chelsea,” Solhekol suggested on X.
“He is contracted until 2023 and a key player for the future of the club.”
Liam Rosenior responds to Cole Palmer "homesick" claims
Rosenior was asked about the reports on January 23, and claimed that Palmer is "very happy" to be at the Stamford Bridge club despite contrary reports about his future.
"I've had numerous conversations with Cole and he seems, and is, very, very happy to be here," Rosenior explained.
"He is a huge part of our long‑term plans, he's an outstanding player. Every player goes through difficult moments in their career with injuries, but that is no indication of his quality."
