Chelsea fans unhappy as Christian Pulisic appears to take a dig at former club

Pulisic never quite lived up to his reputation at Stamford Bridge and he has now left to join Serie A giants AC Milan.

Chelsea fans aren't happy with Christian Pulisic as the American appeared to criticise his time at the club as he became the latest player to leave.

It really is a case of 'blink and you'll miss it' down at Stamford Bridge this summer, such is the regularity of players leaving the club.

Until I was asked to do this article I really had no idea that Pulisic's move to AC Milan had been made official on Thursday night.

Football's LeBron James, I'll never get over that, has joined the likes of Mason Mount, Kai Havertz, Mateo Kovacic and several others out of west London.

It's fair to say that Pulisic didn't live up to expectations during his time with the Blues, having joined for nearly £60 million from Borussia Dortmund in 2019.

The then 21-year-old scored a perfect hat-trick early in his Chelsea career and finished his first season with 11 goals and 10 assists.

However injuries and a loss of form restricted him and he finished his time there with just 26 goals in total before leaving for Milan.

Despite making 145 appearances for the club, Pulisic claimed he wasn't given enough opportunity in England. "Of course. I’d like to think so," he told ESPN when asked if he could have been given more chance to prove himself.

"Of course there are definitely times where I wish I could’ve gotten more of an opportunity and been that guy but yeah, for whatever reason, that’s not the case and like I said, I’m just so excited for this new challenge and I’m definitely ready and up for it."

And the USMNT star then suggested he'd previously felt unwanted, adding: "I think he [Stefano Pioli] made me feel like he wanted me here, he wanted me to be a part of this team and he saw me fitting into this team and that’s what I wanted to hear.

"I still need to earn my place of course, but it felt like I was wanted here and I have a great opportunity if I show good effort, good attitude every day and train well that I’m going to get the opportunity to go out and perform."

And his assessments haven't really gone down too well with fans of Mauricio Pochettino's side, who felt he was given every opportunity at Chelsea.

"The reason is you were injured 60% of the time and your level kept declining," said one fan.

"I wish you'd stayed fit and put in an effort when you were fit but hey you keep wishing you were owed opportunities," sniped a second.

On the same train a thought another added: "The delusion! Had four seasons of chances! Can barely play three games in a row without injury ffs."

"You had 145 opportunities!", exclaimed a fourth.

And a fifth barreled into the American stating: "Four seasons, 145 appearances, 8,020 mins played, 55 games missed through injury spanning 415 days, multiple temper tantrums, his dad kicking off off all the time, fingers always pointed at others & never at himself but yeah he needed more opportunities."

Maybe Italy is just the move Pulisic needs to get back to his best.
