A member of Chelsea’s so-called ‘Bomb Squad’ may finally leave the club, having not played for the Blues since January.
Enzo Maresca’s side are currently fourth in the Premier League after 17 matches so far this term, but, as ever, life at Chelsea is not always as simple as it could be.
In recent weeks, Maresca has hinted at unrest at the club as he’s linked with potentially replacing Pep Guardiola as Manchester City head coach, having previously worked as a youth coach and an assistant first-team coach at the club on two separate occasions.
After his side’s 2-0 win over Everton on December 13, the Italian claimed that he had his “worst 48 hours” as Chelsea head coach because “many people didn’t support us” without fully elaborating or explaining why he felt that way.

Then, on December 20, he suggested that the side needs more experienced players, with the current average age of the squad at 23.6.

Compare this to Arsenal and Manchester United, and the average age of their respective squads is 25.3, with Liverpool at an average of 26.1.
And with the January transfer window due to open in less than a week, Chelsea’s transfer department will likely be considering their options.
In the summer window, Chelsea signed 11 players, including Joao Pedro, Liam Delap, Jamie Gittens, and Alejandro Garnacho, while a total of 12 players, such as Joao Felix and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, departed.
But some out-of-favour stars could not secure a move and have since been forced into the club’s so-called ‘Bomb Squad’.

Both Raheem Sterling and Axel Disasi were effectively exiled from the training squad and forced to train away from the first team ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
However, according to Sky Sports, Disasi returned to first-team training in November.
The 27-year-old French defender has not played a senior game for Chelsea since January, before he was loaned to Aston Villa.

Disasi then made ten appearances for Villa before returning to Chelsea. His last senior game was against Man City in April of 2025.
Since then, the defender has featured in two matches for Chelsea Under-21s this term but could soon secure a move to a huge European club.
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, the France international is of interest to several clubs and “will leave Chelsea in January”.
“Despite links with imminent AC Milan move, he’s been offered as [an] option, but no talks or concrete negotiations are taking place at this stage,” Romano wrote on X.
Disasi is contracted to Chelsea until 2029 and earns £100,000 per week, according to Capology.
