West Ham’s Taty Castellanos accused of spitting on Millwall keeper during Dockers Derby

West Ham and Millwall played out their first Dockers Derby in 14 years as the London rivals squared off at the Den.

It ended 2-2 after the Hammers staged a dramatic second-half revival after going in at the interval two goals down.

However, as well as that amazing comeback from West Ham, there has been significant conversation around the alleged spitting by West Ham's Taty Castellanos towards Millwall goalkeeper Filip Marschall.

West Ham’s Taty Castellanos accused of spitting on the Millwall goalkeeper

Millwall entered the break 2-0 to the good after an incredible first half, which saw Caleb Taylor and Camiel Neghli hit the net.

West Ham did stage a late revival to earn a point from the match as Mohamadou Kante scored their first in the 74^th minute before Konstantinos Mavropanos netted the equaliser six minutes later.

There was still time for the visitors to receive a red card as Kante lost possession as the last man on the halfway line but managed to get back and commit a foul to save what was a clear goal-scoring opportunity by pulling Kyrell Lisbie to the ground on the edge of the penalty area.

The Dockers Derby was full of action but an unwanted moment came in the second half as goalkeeper Marschall delayed releasing the ball from his hands while Millwall were leading 2-0.

Castellanos looked to close the Millwall keeper down before he picked up the ball, leading to the players appearing to get involved in an altercation in the penalty area.

Marschall then appeared to point towards his jersey, implying he was spat at, while Sky Sports reported that the fourth official confirmed an allegation of spitting had been lodged by Millwall staff.

The broadcaster then reported Marschall delayed releasing the ball because he claimed that Taty had spat at him, which helps to explain the long deliberation between the referee and the Millwall keeper during the second half. Sky Sports would then report the coaching staff of the hosts reported the allegations to the fourth official on the touchline.

Alex Neil responds to spitting allegation

The Dockers Derby between West Ham and Millwall was being broadcast on Sky Sports, with the sides meeting for the first time in 14 years.

Fans online reacted to the alleged spitting by Castellanos, with the overall view being one of shock and anger.

Millwall manager Alex Neil confirmed that an allegation had been made by Marschall in his post-match press conference.

"Obviously I'm so far away so it's hard for me to see what happened, but I wouldn't presume Fil would say that without cause," Neil said. "I'm sure the referees and the authorities, whoever, will look at it and if it warrants that it needs dealt with, I'm sure it will."

West Ham boss Nuno Espírito Santo refused to comment, stating he hadn't seen the alleged incident: "That's not what we should be speaking about, this game, this game has much to speak about. It was a very intense game for both fans."
