Raphinha equals incredible Lionel Messi record as Barcelona destroy Borussia Dortmund in Champions League

Raphinha starred as Barcelona beat Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.

Raphinha equalled Lionel Messi's incredible Champions League record as Barcelona ran riot against Borussia Dortmund.

Barca beat Dortmund 4-0 at the Camp Nou to secure a huge advantage ahead of next week's quarter-final second-leg clash in Germany.

Lamine Yamal almost scored a goal of the season contender when he produced a moment of magic in the opening minutes as Raphinha eventually opened the scoring.

The Brazilian tapped home from close range to make it 1-0. He then turned provided when he set up Robert Lewandowski, who headed home.

Lewandowski bagged his second goal of the night to make it 3-0, with Yamal getting on the score-sheet to add his side's fourth.

Raphinha slid in a delightful pass to Yamal, who made no mistake in front of goal.

Raphinha's three goal involvements means he has now drawn with level Messi's record for the most goal involvements (19) in a single Champions League campaign for Barca.

Messi recorded 19 goal involvements in the 2011/12 season.

The star winger has 12 goals and seven assists to his name in the Champions League this season.

With Barca's big win over Dortmund, Raphinha likely has three more games in this season's Champions League campaign to add to his impressive tally.

He'll now have his sights set on Cristiano Ronaldo's all-time record of 21 goal involvements for Real Madrid in the 2013/14 season.

Raphinha, who joined from Leeds United, is enjoying a remarkable campaign, having also scored 13 league goals.

He could lead his side to La Liga and Champions League glory this season.

After the game, the 28-year-old spoke highly of his teammates Yamal and Lewandowski.

"I love playing with high-level players, and Lamine, Robert and me understand each other very well," he said. "This is very important, and I hope to continue putting up spectacular numbers."

On his goal, Raphinha added: "I was quite worried about whether I was offside during the first goal. I apologised to Cubarsí."
