Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola made no secret of his admiration for one of Real Madrid's standout performers following Wednesday night's Champions League clash at the Bernabeu.
Guardiola's side moved up to fourth in the Champions League league phase table after goals from Nico O'Reilly and Erling Haaland sealed a 2-1 win over Madrid.
Rodrygo, who was strongly linked with a move to City in the summer, scored his first goal in 32 games to put Los Blancos ahead with 28 minutes on the clock.
But the visitors came from behind after scoring two first-half goals, leaving Xabi Alonso on the brink of being sacked following reports of a 'crisis' meeting involving Madrid president Florentino Perez.

After the full-time whistle, a delighted Pep Guardiola could be seen making a beeline for goalscorer Rodrygo.

In fact, Guardiola spoke of his admiration for the Brazilian forward, just months after City were reported to be 'considering' a move for the forward.
"I told Rodrygo how good he is," said Guardiola, as per Marca. "He's a player from another level. This kid is a player on another level. I'm glad he's back from injury. He's very, very good."
The Spaniard was also asked for his assessment of Xabi Alonso’s Real Madrid side.
“They have many casualties," he added. "In the first half they were much better. Obviously with the goal and the penalty we calmed down. Then, when they put Endrick in, Vinicius open, a lot of people in the box. The question is to survive.”
Back in August, City appeared to enter the race to sign Rodrygo ahead of the departures of James McAtee and Jack Grealish.
Fabrizio Romano gave an insight into the club's interest.
“Manchester City are considering move for Rodrygo after imminent exits," he said. "Grealish gone, McAtee and Savinho can leave… and #MCFC see Rodrygo as dream target, Guardiola big fan."
He added: "Real Madrid will let him leave if player wants - asking around €100m."
In the past, Rodrygo has enjoyed playing against Guardiola’s men, having scored five times and assisted twice in just 10 appearances against the Premier League club.
He has also described Guardiola as a “great coach”, claiming that it is “very difficult to play against his teams”.
