Lamine Yamal names the only club that can stop Barcelona winning the Champions League this season

The Barcelona man will be hoping to secure this year's crown but admitted his side will be in for some tough competition from another club.

Lamine Yamal has named the one team that he feels could stop Barcelona from winning this year’s Champions League.

Yamal, 17, has already won La Liga, Euro 2024 and the Supercopa de Espana and will no doubt be hoping to win Europe’s premier club competition this season.

And based on Barcelona’s performance in the 36-team group phase, they are one of the favourites to lift the trophy in Munich, Germany, on May 31.

The Catalan side finished second in the group phase, which secured their automatic qualification for the round of 16, which will get underway on March 4.

Barca’s skipper Raphinha, 28, has already backed his side to reach this year’s final and predicted the La Liga outfit would face Manchester City.

Barca, who now lead the Spanish top-flight despite taking just six points from a sequence of eight games, scraped past Rayo Vallecano with a 1-0 win on Monday.

One of the main issues has been a lack of ruthlessness against the so-called ‘lesser teams’, having lost against Leganes and drawn against Getafe in recent times.

However, they put seven past Valencia in La Liga before netting five against them in the Copa del Rey on February 6.

And Yamal has been a standout in this term, already registering 11 goals and 15 assists in 32 appearances for the five-time European champions.

But who does he think will be Barca's biggest challengers for this year's Champions League?

“I think that only Liverpool are more favourites than us in Champions League… as they arrived first," Yamal told MD.

“We can compete to win it. We can be there."

Barca boss Hansi Flick also conceded that Liverpool could be his side's biggest threat for this year's crown.

"The future will tell whether we are among the favourites or not," Flick said in January.

"The Champions League is one of the most difficult competitions to win, but we have to try.

"When I look at Liverpool, I see a team with incredible power. They are one of my favourite teams in the world right now.

"We are doing well, but there are very good teams that are also doing well, and we are contending on three fronts [Champions League, LaLiga and Copa del Rey]."
