The future of Julio Enciso has become a major talking point, with the Paraguay international set to complete a controversial move away from Brighton & Hove Albion.

Enciso, who spent the final six months of last season on loan at recently-relegated Ipswich Town, returned to parent club Brighton this summer, but was not part of Fabian Hurzeler’s plans for the upcoming campaign.

The 21-year-old attacking midfielder was therefore available on the market. Serie A giants Roma were said to be considering a move for Enciso alongside Brazilian outfit Palmeiras.

But on Wednesday night, it was widely reported that BlueCo – the group that owns Chelsea and Strasbourg – have reached an agreement to sign the player.

Personal terms for Enciso are in place with the consortium, according to The Athletic, who suggest both clubs have a 'healthy relationship' after conducting a significant amount of business since BlueCo completed its takeover of Chelsea in 2022.

A year later, the consortium purchased Ligue 1 side Strasbourg as part of their multi-club strategy.

As mentioned above, BlueCo's move for Enciso has become a huge discussion point on social media, with many offering their views on the situation after David Ornstein posted an update on his future.

Here's just some of the reaction from that post.

One fan wrote: "Quite honestly find it so disgusting that we report transfers as players being signed by investment groups and not clubs. Football is broken."

Another said: "But Palace weren’t allowed to play in the Europa League because of multi-club ownership. Make it make sense," and a third commented: "This shouldn’t be allowed. And we all know it. Stinks from every possible angle."

A fourth wrote: "This should not be reported as if it's some normal or acceptable thing that a club's parent company has signed a player, so that player can sign for 'Strasbourg' & eventually Chelsea for a convenient fee they'll negotiate with themselves. We're too numb to this & it's a problem."

A fifth added: "I say this as a fan of a club who’s owners have multiple clubs. Multi-club ownership is ruining the sport and needs to be stopped."
