Bayer Leverkusen produced perfect piece of s***housery after beating Roma in Europa League

Bayer Leverkusen have reached the Europa League final.

Bayer Leverkusen performed the perfect piece of s***housery after they beat AS Roma in the semi-finals of the Europa League.

Bayer Leverkusen's pursuit of an historic treble continued on Thursday evening when they progressed to the final of the Europa League.

After winning 2-0 in the first leg of the semi-final in Rome last week, Xabi Alonso's side found themselves 2-0 down at home following two converted penalties from Roma midfielder Leandro Paredes.

A Gianluca Mancini own goal restored Leverkusen's aggregate lead, before Josip Stanisic equalised in the 97th minute to secure a 4-2 aggregate win and extend his side's unbeaten run to 49 games.

The Bundesliga champions have now scored a remarkable 17 goals after the 90th minute this season, and have broken the record for the longest unbeaten run by a European club since European club competitions were introduced in 1955.

Scenes of jubilation followed the full-time whistle as Leverkusen fans, players and staff celebrated reaching the Europa League final, where they will face Atalanta in Dublin on May 22.

Leverkusen have won hearts and minds this season for their exciting football and likeable squad, but that doesn't mean they can't indulge in a bit of s***housery every now and again.

That's exactly what they did at full-time on Thursday, when the stadium DJ at the Bayer Arena played a dance remix of the famous Italian song 'Bella Ciao'.

Playing arguably the most famous Italian song of all time was a sure-fire way of rubbing salt in the wounds of Roma, whose players lost their tempers with Leverkusen at several points during the match.

Bella Ciao is an anti-fascist song dedicated to the partisans of Italy who fought against invading Nazi forces and their fascist collaborators between 1943 and 1945 during the Italian resistance.

The song feels particularly relevant at a time when the German far-right AfD party is surging in popularity.

That said, Bella Ciao is somewhat at odds with right-wing sentiments Leverkusen's ultras have expressed at times this season; some ultras held up a transphobic banner during one match.
