Marcus Rashford is 'more than happy' to play shock position for Aston Villa and it's stunned everybody

The former Man Utd winger joined Aston Villa in the final days of the transfer window.

Marcus Rashford is reportedly happy to play in a shocking new position at Aston Villa just days after joining on loan.

Aston Villa secured one of the biggest transfers of the January window on Sunday as they brought Manchester United star Rashford to the club on a loan until the end of the season.

The Englishman was linked with several of the biggest clubs in Europe but will remain in the Premier League and lineup alongside national teammates Ollie Watkins, Ezri Konsa and Morgan Rogers.

With Rashford seemingly keen to get his career back on track after being dropped by United manager Ruben Amorim, a new report has revealed that he is prepared to play a shock position if needed.

At Villa, Rashford is expected to start in his natural position on the left wing, with Watkins and Rogers completing the front three.

However, according to The Guardian's Manchester correspondent Jamie Jackson, Rashford could be playing in the centre of attack at Villa, a role which he has previously expressed a dislike of.

Posting on X, the journalist wrote: "Don't be surprised if Rashford plays No 9 for Villa - and flourishes: am told he's more than happy to play there."

After Jhon Duran left Villa Park to join Saudi Pro League club Al Nassr earlier in the window, it was confirmed that Rashford would be wearing the number nine shirt, further adding weight that we could see Rashford playing as a centre forward at Villa.

Should this be the case, it would be a massive shock for fans given the fact that Rashford has previously said that he prefers to play across the front line and not just be seen as a number nine.

Speaking to Sky Sports in 2019, Rashford said: "I think nowadays, the time I've been developing, I've never wanted to be just a centre-forward.

"I want to be able to adapt, play different positions, different systems—I don't want to be just a centre-forward."

It would also surprise many fans if Rashford began starting as a striker ahead of Villa star Ollie Watkins, who has been crucial to the club's success in recent years.

Therefore, it is perhaps more likely that both Rashford and Watkins will both flow between playing as a left winger and a striker during the match.
