Aston Villa are accelerating towards landing their top striker in a move which could prompt a dramatic transfer merry-go-round involving Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, reports claim.
Villa have only made three new signings so far this summer, the most expensive being £26 million striker Evann Guessand after he joined from Nice.
But the Midlands outfit are still looking to strengthen their attack after allowing Jacob Ramsey and Leon Bailey to leave and according to Fabrizio Romano, have their sights set on Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson.
Jackson, who scored in the Conference League final against Real Betis last summer, is still contracted until 2032.

However, the arrival of Liam Delap and Joao Pedro has left him out of favour at Stamford Bridge - with a host of clubs expressing interest.

Newcastle, who pipped Villa to the final Champions League place on goal difference, have been heavily linked with Jackson amongst a number of other strikers this summer.
But according to the latest from Romano, Jackson is a top target for Villa and talks are ongoing regarding the "structure" of a potential deal.

The Senegal international worked with Unai Emery at previous club Villarreal and the pair are said to be maintain an excellent relationship.
Jackson deal could spark transfer frenzy
Ollie Watkins remains Villa's frontman but a recent report from Dean Jones in TEAMTalk stated that Newcastle could look to go after him if Jackson ends up at Villa Park.
Although the England international is not pushing to leave and the club stress he is not for sale, the report claims he is attracting interest from Newcastle as a Jackson alternative and transfer drama could ensue.

Watkins, previously linked with Arsenal and Manchester United, found himself out of the Villa side last season following the arrivals of Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio.

Newcastle have still been left frustrated in their pursuit of Brentford's Yoane Wissa, who has unfollowed his club and deleted all references on his Instagram.
His behaviour has almost mirrored that of Isak, who still wants out at Newcastle - who are adamant he will not be allowed to leave and responded to a recent statement of his.

The Swede continues to train alone and away from the rest of his teammates while Liverpool are expected to table a second bid for the former Real Sociedad man.
Jackson to Villa and Watkins possibly joining Newcastle could potentially impact Isak's situation as we head towards the final stretch in the summer transfer window.
