Arsenal have reached an agreement with a Premier League club for a transfer nobody saw coming.

Arsenal have had a fairly quiet summer, but have made signings in key areas as they look to challenge Manchester City for the Premier League title.

Defender Riccardo Calafiori arrived from Bologna in a £42 million deal, before midfielder Mikel Merino joined from Real Sociedad for an initial fee of £27.4m.

Arsenal also made the loan move of goalkeeper David Raya from Brentford permanent, and now another shot-stopper is set to be added to Mikel Arteta's squad.

The Gunners have agreed to sign Bournemouth goalkeeper Neto on a season-long loan, but the deal will not include an option to buy.

According to BBC Sport, the 35-year-old will undergo a medical with Arsenal on Friday morning before completing the move.

Arsenal were looking for another goalkeeper to provide back-up to and challenge Raya for the No.1 jersey after agreeing to sell Aaron Ramsdale to Southampton.

The London club have been linked to Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia, but on Thursday the Spanish club rejected two bids for the 23-year-old.

Kepa Arrizabalaga's arrival from Chelsea on loan meant that Bournemouth were open to allowing Neto to leave the club.

The Brazilian goalkeeper joined Bournemouth in 2022 from Barcelona, and has previously played for Valencia, Juventus and Fiorentina.

Arsenal have made a strong start to the new Premier League season, with Raya keeping clean sheets in 2-0 wins against Wolves and Aston Villa.
