Burnley minority owner JJ Watt has gone viral social media for a post appearing to imply Premier League bias after Arsenal's Kai Havertz avoided a red card on Monday night.

Arsenal took another step closer to a first Premier League title in 22 years with a narrow 1-0 win over Burnley after Havertz headed home the only goal of the game in the 36th minute.

The Gunners are guaranteed to win the title if they beat Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on the final day - though they could be crowned champions on Tuesday night if Manchester City fail to beat Bournemouth in Pep Guardiola's penultimate game in charge.

However, Havertz finds himself extremely fortunate to not be suspended for the final fixture after a late, studs-up challenge on Lesley Ugochukwu.

The German caught the former Chelsea midfielder right on the calf and received a yellow card for the action. The incident was checked by VAR, with Gary Neville describing the challenge as "horrible", "vicious" and deserving of a red card, on commentary.

After the caution remained following the VAR review, the Premier League's official match centre said the yellow card stuck as "the challenge deemed not to be serious foul play".

Pundits and fans alike were baffled by the decision and explanation and former NFL star Watt did not hold back with his reaction.

Taking to X, he posted a screenshot of Havertz' tackle and then a mocked VAR graphic which said, "Checking club badge" - inferring that some clubs get preferential treatment when it comes to key calls.

The post from Watt, who is also involved in La Liga club Espanyol, accrued 1.2 million views on X.

Burnley interim boss Mike Jackson was clear in his view that Havertz should have been sent off - a move that be believes would have changed the game in the Clarets' favour for the final 20 minutes.

"In today's game, it is a red card and it is dangerous," he said in his post-match press conference.

"He could have injured him as well.

"That means that they go down to ten with 20 minutes to go, we are still in the game. We stayed in the game as long as we could. They're big decisions that sometimes we don't get, and we haven't got throughout the season."

Already relegated, Burnley host Wolves in their final game of the season at Turf Moor on Sunday. A draw will mean Burnley avoid finishing rock bottom of the league.
